Jesus, the Son of God
Spring 2011 is a reality. God’s creation is showing signs of new life and His
beauty in new buds, blooms, and flowers. This year we will celebrate the resurrection,
the new life of Jesus during this month. I have just surveyed the April
calendar and have concluded that we had better not just be alive, but be alive in
an energetic fashion.
Of course our focus will be upon Holy Week, the time from Palm Sunday to Easter
Day. We will recall the last week of the earthly life of Jesus, one compacted
with many incredible teachings and events. We will rejoice again in the center of
our faith, the death and resurrection of Jesus. Our focus will include the solemn
observance of Maundy Thursday (21st) through music and quiet meditation.
During this month we will worship the risen Christ every Sunday. On the first
Sunday our worship will center around the memorial meal that Jesus gave us
(3rd). On the other three days of our Lord I will share messages that convey the
relationship of Jesus with Jerusalem. We will examine His journey to the city,
His arrival at the city, His death outside the city, and His preparation for us in the
Holy Week is a time when our culture hears the Christian community affirm our
faith in special times of worship and communion. Pasadena Faith in Action is designed
to capitalize upon that attention. On the day preceding Holy Week (16th),
we will join with other Jesus followers in Pasadena to “wash the feet of others”
by serving in practical home clean up and fix up projects. In this way several
hundred of us can literally be the visible presence of Christ in providing acts of
ministry and kind service to others in the name of our Savior.
